Horses of the NightThroughout the short story, “Horses of the Night” by Margaret Laurence, the characters are forced to deal with alienation. Chris faces alienation when he is forced to leave his family to attend high school. He is forced to move to a totally different area. When he plans to become an engineer, only money stands in his way of becoming one. He is forced to move to a totally different area.
When he plans to become an engineer, only money stands in his way of becoming one. His goals and dreams are shattered when he cannot afford to attend engineering school. And he is forced once again into something he does not want to do. He is forced back to the farm, which is not where he wants to be.
He takes any chance he can to get away from it, which is the reason why he enlists in the army, to have a sense of freedom, that his life was his own to live. When he gets off the train before returning home was also a rebellion again. When Chris moves in Vanessa and Chris become great friends. And it’s because of Vanessa we get to see many different character traits.
The many traits we see is how kind, Intelligent, and very smart, depressed. Chris is very depressed from his family that where he lived before coming to Vanessa’s house. His family didn’t care about to much about what he wanted in life. Chris feels like he is alone until he meets Vanessa.Eventually Chris goes of to the army like he planed. But In The end he has a mental break down.
